The Protomen (2.5-ish hours)
Date: 2026-03-16 09:58 pm (UTC)Media: Rock Opera (3 albums
so far), it's about 2 hours and 38 minutes in its current runtime.Where to find it:
You can buy physical albums with liner notes on their Bandcamp, or listen to the songs on streaming services (they may be missing liner notes/have inaccurate lyrics, but you can still get a lot of the story from them) There's also a fan wiki on miraheze, but it's not complete yet.
What is it, in summary?:
It's a dystopian sci-fi rock opera with 80's style rock music telling a story of grief, robots, heroes, and revenge, in a vicious cycle. The characters are based on/from Mega Man, but it's its own story and alternate universe of the characters.
What do you love about it?:
Despite how dark the initial description is, the music is AMAZING and there's an underlying sense of hope to the tragedy -- it challenges the audience to make a choice and change the story (especially when considering live show elements). There's a beautiful sadness and connection between the main characters in act I as doomed siblings, and the characters have depth and nuance that make them more than just clear-cut heroes and villains.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
Canon-compliant missing scenes, less canon compliant fluff and ships (I want to see the doomed brothers get to be BROTHERS for once!! And I want the hopeful heroine to actually be able to convince the hero who fell to try again...)
Content warnings (for example: epilepsy/flashing lights, rape, incest, racism, gore/violence):
Violence, character death, character resurrection, lynching (in one song in the second act and again in the third act), fascism, suicidal thoughts
