These pinch hits assignments are for a complete story of 1,000+ words or a 1 finished art piece as per the requester's medium, in one of the requester's fandoms and featuring at least one of their requested characters or relationships, minding their DNWs.
The due dates for these will be the same as those for initial assignments: May 25 at 11:59 PM US Eastern Time. Please comment or otherwise let us know if you'd like to pick one up (we will need your AO3 username and the number of the pinch hit you're claiming).

Limbo the King | King in Limbo (Manga)Relationships:

This series isn't exactly one I thought I'd really enjoy, given that it features a pandemic that was stopped only to come back worse, but I was caught by the sad middle-aged man and stayed for the near-future sci-fi action where a handful of talented people can dive with a companion into other people's memories to cure a memory-eating illness. I was especially taken by the story's parallels between Rune's late companion Angela and his new companion Adam, and I would love to see Rune's relationships with the two people who know him best, whether platonic or romantic. How does the relationship between Rune and Angela turn from coworker to spouse? Does Adam have any more success flirting with Rune than he did with the nurses in the hospital? How does diving together affect how divers and companions feel about each other? What would Angela and Adam both complain about if they could compare notes on Rune?
I'd also love to just see more about Rune - there's so many tantalizing aspects of his past that aren't heavily explored, like the incident with his mother and the gunshot scar, as well as his personal life. How does he act around his cat? What's his favorite memory from childhood?
DNW: Detailed descriptions of serious/fatal illness; mentioning canonical side effects and fatalities is fine, but please don't go into detail.

宝石商リチャード氏の謎鑑定 | Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei | The Case Files of Jeweler Richard (Anime)Relationships:

love the way this series uses gemstones and jewelry as a jumping-off point for such excellent character work and social commentary, and I have a particular soft spot for Tanimoto and the way her character develops. I would love to see more from her as she works her way through societal pressure over relationships and marriage while just living her normal college life. I'd also like to see her perspective on her relationship with Seigi - does she like having someone around who appreciates her intense rock nerdery? I'm also in love with the complicated relationship between Richard and Seigi and the painfully slow burn going on there - how does Richard feel about everything that's been going on? What does Seigi's mother think is going on? What about the fallout from everything with Seigi's dad?
Basically, I would just love to see more of the character stuff that the anime only has time to hint at. Material from the novels is welcome.

Skip & Loafer is so good to me because of its delightfully awkward herd of teenagers, but as much as I like Mitsumi and her earnest fumblings, I found myself especially interested in Makoto and Yuzuki. I love the "nerdy girl preemptively shuns the cool girl because she thinks she's going to be mean only to get dragged in to friendship" thing that went on between them, and I would absolutely love to see their relationship get deeper, whether platonically or romantically. What kind of stuff do they get up to just between themselves?

I adored this show and how well it handled Momose's work anxiety while also being the fluffiest damn thing I have ever seen, but what I really, really wished it had was Momose and Shirosaki actually becoming a couple since they were already three-quarters of the way there by the end. What I'd love to see is how the most oblivious duo finally figured out that just maybe they're much closer than a supervisor and an underling should be - does someone trip and fall and surprise lock lips? Does Shirosaki's brother make it back for a visit and ask some questions? Are the neighbors under the impression that there's a breakup after Momose moves out? I would love to see the most ridiculous romcom tropes ever with these two.
DNW: sex between Momose and Shirosaki. Physical intimacy on the level of heavy kissing and touching is fine, but nothing further than that on the page

The Half Life of Valery K - Natasha PulleyRelationships:

I've fallen hard for all of Natasha Pulley's novels, but this book might be one of the titles that caught me hardest. It's a heavy read that's nearly impossible to recommend given the whole "about a Soviet scientist pulled from a prison camp to work in an irradiated city who slowly realizes how much the government has lied to him about that radiation and also falls for a KGB agent" thing and I do love it for that, but I'd really enjoy seeing happiness for Valery and Shenkov, whether mid-story or afterwards.
What was Shenkov's initial perspective of Valery? What does life after the end of the story look like for them? (What else about England baffles?) Does Shenkov ever find out all the ideas Valery had about what he must be thinking about with his kids? Do they ever just go ice skating together?
For art, I am a sucker for the size gap these two have going on and the tenderness that Shenkov is bound and determined to show Valery.
DNW: major characters suffering from terminal illnesses or fatal radiation sickness; detailed descriptions or visuals of non-fatal radiation-related medical issues. Mentioning past health issues or characters who canonically are very not well is fine, and depicting minor ailments like colds or sprains is okay, but please don't make radiation sickness a central element.

The Watchmaker of Filigree Street - Natasha PulleyRelationships:

This book is one of the other novels in heavy contention for "Natasha Pulley title that got me but good". I love the dynamic between Mori and Thaniel, the mix of deep affection and love alongside a bit of wariness and uncertainty given all the issues they face as a couple, and I would be very interested in seeing more of their everyday life together after the end of the story. How do they move forward once all the cards are on the table? What does family life with Six look like?
For art, I am fond of Mori's bleached blond hair and Thaniel's sound-colors and the period setting of the story.
Material from The Lost Future of Pepperharrow and The Bedlam Stacks is welcome.
