Scott Pilgrim VS The World (movie)
Date: 2025-03-18 02:11 pm (UTC)Scott Pilgrim VS The World
Media:
Movie (1h 52min)
Where to find it:
Unsure if it's still there, but I watched it most recently on Max and I believe in Canada it's on Netflix!
What is it, in summary?:
An action comedy movie about a guy named Scott Pilgrim who's kind of a loser who goes on a quest to battle his crush's seven evil exes to get to be with her
What do you love about it?:
This world is so absurd and charming, nothing makes sense yet it all works. The characters are all likeable and funny, and the pacing is so quick it never leaves you bored!
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
As I said, all of the characters here are entertaining to watch, so probably various romantic ships or platonic pairings between the characters! I also just love the characters in general, so possibly some backstory about them or what they get up to post-canon?
Content warnings:
Photosensitivity warning for some flashes in the film, video game-esque violence, some dated language/jokes, maybe a couple of innuendos/sex jokes
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (show)
Date: 2025-03-18 02:20 pm (UTC)Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Media:
Show (8ep, around 4hrs)
Where to find it:
Netflix!
What is it, in summary?:
A twist on VS The World, a universe where Scott Pilgrim (presumably) doesn't exist, and how things would be different without him
What do you love about it?:
I love how much more we get to learn about the characters when the main focus isn't on Scott and Ramona's relationship. Scott's friends have more personality, and we get to learn so much about Ramona's "evil" exes (who aren't so evil when you get to know them, as the show tells us)!
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
I LOVE this "what if" concept of taking the main character out of the show for most of the series, and getting to explore things without the titular character present. The characters all feel so fresh and different to their VS The World counterparts, I'd honestly love to see more exploration into their lives and dynamics with other characters (romantic or platonic)! What were Ramona and Roxy like in college before the breakup? What is Lucas Lee up to, does he hang out with any of the exes? How is Knives doing, how is her friendship with Kim going? Things like that!
Content warnings:
Possible photosensitivity warning, sex jokes, video game violence?
RWBY: Ice Queendom
Date: 2025-03-18 04:06 pm (UTC)Media: Anime (12ep 24min each)
Where to find it:
Crunchyroll: https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GVDHX8JP2/rwby-ice-queendom
What is it, in summary?: It is a story set in-between volumes 1 and 2 of RWBY that focuses on Weiss after she is infected by a new type of grimm that forces the rest of team RWBY to confront both Weiss past and their own in order to save her.
What do you love about it?: The designs first an for most I really do love shafts take of RWBY in a more traditional 2-d art style. In terms of the story I really like how i delves into Weiss is character and it forces the rest of the team to really examine their relationship to her. The introduction of the Nega of Negative versions of Weiss and Blake are also really interesting because it's interesting to see what they manifest as and how it shapes how they view themselves and each other.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: femslash specifically between Nega Weiss and Yang or Nega Blake and Yang. Really delve into how the Nega versions of the characters affect how they view and interact and even love Yang.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): PG-13 Violence
Riddle Story of Devil (Akuma No Riddle)
Date: 2025-03-18 04:14 pm (UTC)Media: Anime (12 ep 24min each)
Where to find it:
Funimation: https://www.funimation.com/shows/riddle-story-of-devil/
What is it, in summary?: It is a manga and anime that follows the story of Tokaku Azuma and Haru Ichinose, as Tokaku tries to protect Haru from the rest of their classmates who are all assassins aiming to take her life.
What do you love about it?: The characters and their stories and relationships really take center stage and I really like how every episode is its own arc that we get to delve into.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: it will be slash fics between characters I think have really intriguing but unexplored dynamics
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): PG-13 Violence
The Elementalists (Winters Past)
Date: 2025-03-18 04:41 pm (UTC)Media: Mobile Game/Visual Novel
Where to find it:
Full game: Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixelberrystudios.choices&hl=en_GB), App Store (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/choices-stories-you-play/id1071310449)
Full Play-through: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHIMQU8xQE0-3MWemkhvh1TO6oOksVH9z
What is it, in summary?: It is a romance + fantasy visual novel where you are mysteriously transported a magical university and have do deal with everything from trying to fit in to an unknown world to a bloodthirsty serial killer and the source of air magic trying to kill you. In Winter's Past the MC and her friends are spending the holiday's together between their second and third years at a friends chateau.
What do you love about it?: The Setting is one of my all-time favourites the idea of a magical college that has everything from courses to actual sports is awesome it's like a fun twist on Harry Potter. With a fun cast of characters with really nice arcs it's honestly just a good read. In the context of winter's past. Mixing both magical and non magical idea of Christmas together is really cool and it's nice to see the character's interact outside of the school setting.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Definitely Shreya/Female MC femslash. It's Shreya's Family Vacation Home the gang is staying at so that gives you plenty of inspiration especially for an MC that's dating her.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): optional sexual content, mild Pg-13 violence and strong language.
Hana no Asuka-Gumi (movie 1988)
Date: 2025-03-18 07:34 pm (UTC)Media: film
Where to find it: good luck.
What is it, in summary?: a gang war movie set in the 90s about a fictional drug and a bunch of teenage girls suffering.
What do you love about it?: I really like the vibes and the tragedy. I’m also obsessed with Asuka’s dynamic with Hibari, the villain.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Asuka/Hibari toxic yuri/grooming, Asuka/Miko tragic yuri
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): violence, torture, harm to minors, drugs
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
Date: 2025-03-18 07:34 pm (UTC)Media: manga (30 issues plus 3-4 bonus chapters)
Where to find it: your local library?
What is it, in summary?: high school girl Kusakabe Maron has been conscripted by heaven into becoming a phantom thief who fights demons hidden in paintings, because she holds the powers of Joan of Arc from her past life.
What do you love about it?: FINNNNNNNNN I love her she has so many issues. I love Maron’s quiet depression and fear. “God controls the wind” is such a fire line. I also love it for deconstructing Christina purity culture.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: canon aftermath, AU where Finn doesn’t reincarnate as Maron’s daughter. Finn whump. Maron whump.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): so much referenced and attempted noncon, and dubcon kissing, all of which happens to underage girls.
Shoujo Commando Izumi
Date: 2025-03-18 07:35 pm (UTC)Media: TV show (15 eps 24 min)
Where to find it: good luck
What is it, in summary?: orphaned Sukeban Gojo Izumi was framed for murder and kidnapped to be made into a living weapon. Now she’s escaped, and she just wants to be human again. Luckily she has two girls who want to help with that.
What do you love about it?: female lead Toku is soooooo rare. For Izumi in particular I love the story, the premise, which leans more into the child soldier bend than most Sukeban shows by just a small margin, and the fact that it’s such a quick and easy entry point.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Izumi/Saori/Keiko, angst and character studies. Canon continuation.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): child death/torture
Pop in Q
Date: 2025-03-18 07:37 pm (UTC)Media: movie
Where to find it: good luck
What is it, in summary?: five girls are taken to a land outside of time where they become magical girls and have to learn a dance to save the fabric of reality.
What do you love about it?: everyone has such fun problems and characters! I’ve half a mind to get my hands on the novella sequel out of sheer curiosity.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: ot5, character study, canon continuation
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): suicidal ideation, and I think that’s it?
Revolutionary Girl Utena (manga)
Date: 2025-03-18 07:38 pm (UTC)Media: manga (25 issues + 3 bonus chapters)
Where to find it: your local library. Otherwise good luck.
What is it, in summary?: you’ve heard of Revolutionary Utena, the feminist sapphic anime about the horrors of girlhood and sexual exploitation. Now explore its softer bisexual twin, and hilariously the only Utena content created by a woman, the manga! Featuring all the same themes on a weaker level with two times the mysticism, Utena’s manga leads you on the journey of Utena Tenjou, a girl who wants to be a prince and find the man who saved her from drowning as a child. This journey leads her to the mysterious Ohtori academy and a girl called the rose bride, as she realizes the true weight of stepping into the world of stories.
What do you love about it?: I’m not normal about manga Utena like it has problems (straight Juri what do I do with you) but I love it. I love it accidentally giving me a transfem Touga headcanon. I love the mysticism and how it accidentally gave me an incredible racism metaphor. I love the pacing and how expressive manga Anthy is and the colors and the ending!!!
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Touga/Utena/Anthy, theme analysis, character analysis, etc
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): implied grooming, incest, mild gore?
Aviary Attorney (Video Game/Visual novel)
Date: 2025-03-18 09:00 pm (UTC)Media: Video game/visual novel (about 7hrs for all three endings)
Where to find it: Steam, Switch eshop. A Let's play without commentary and with all three endings is here: https://youtu.be/X0Wv--fxyrM (https://youtu.be/X0Wv--fxyrM)
What is it, in summary?: Disappointed that the Ace Attorney video games aren't eligible for this exchange? Try this version with bird lawyers in 19th century France! Come for the lawyer game fix, stay for the social commentary on France at the cusp of the 1848 revolution
What do you love about it?: See above! Also the artwork - characters are taken from the public domain caricatures of J.J. Grandville, and they all look amazing.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Classism, Ace Attorney-typical murder

Date: 2025-03-19 02:11 am (UTC)Fellow Travelers (TV)
Media: TV show
Where to find it:
On a streaming service in your area, unfortunately it's very region-based
What is it, in summary?: I'm not sure how to describe it so I'm letting IMDB and wiki do it for me:
wiki: After a chance encounter in Washington, D.C., in the 1950s, Hawkins Fuller and Timothy Laughlin start a volatile romance that spans the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves
imdb: Decades-long chronicle of the risky, volatile and steamy relationship between the charismatic and ambitious Hawk and the pious and idealistic Tim, two political staffers who fall in love at the height of the 1950s Lavender Scare.
The secondary pairing of the show is between a drag queen and a Black gay journalist trying to make his way in the world. They get about 30% of the screen time at most, I'd say.
What do you love about it?: First of all, Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey play the main couple, and they are very attractive in both show personality and physically, and it makes for a very beautiful pairing. Secondly the chemistry and romantic/sexual attraction is OFF the charts. It's also very very good at tugging at your heart strings and shows the history of LGBT opression in the US. It's a very genuine and real acknowledgement of the pain of that time, with sparks of hope for our main pairing. To me it's also an incredible look at what it looks like if sometimes love isn't enough.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: fix-it, modern(er) AU, marriage fic, happy fluffy stuff, role reversal au setting fic, maybe some explicit fic if the mood is right because these two are very very sexy together. I would love to write role reversal fic where Tim is the one with power in the relationship and what an ambitious man like Hawk would do faced with that power imbalance!
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Infidelity (not between main pairing), racism typical of 1950s US (not by main pairing), Major Character Death (due to terminal illness), Homophobia (internalized & era-typical) & Lavender Scare.
I'm willing to answer more specific questions about content warnings!

Date: 2025-03-22 08:13 pm (UTC)Music Videos! (Inner Gold, Mr. FEAR, and Starlight Brigade)
Date: 2025-03-20 11:16 pm (UTC)Media: Music Video
Where to find it: here on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnHIe_USfL4&pp=ygUbaW5uZXIgZ29sZCBsaW5kc2V5IHN0aXJsaW5n)
What is it, in summary?: It's a music video showing the journey of one dancer learning to break out of a dystopian-looking mold by finding what she loves and what "powers" her, and spreading that hope to the others inside the system.
What do you love about it?: For a fairly dystopian-looking music video, it's beautiful, and the lyrics fit perfectly with the story it tells. All the characters despite very brief screentime feel pretty defined!
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Ideas of what the Inspector-like characters watching over the dancers want or are trying to do, continuations of the story showing how Royal's character broke out, more worldbuilding or found family-like ideas with the dancer girls as a group.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): None
Title: Mr. FEAR (SIAMES)
Media: Music Video
Where to find it: here on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKLWC93nvAU)
What is it, in summary?: Mr. FEAR is the story of two beings who have a strange ability - to combine with each other when they touch, creating a monster - or perhaps just a physical representation of their conflict. This creature lashes out at the world around it, and other people fight back and try to isolate them, but it won't solve the main problem.
What do you love about it?: I love the concept of a fusion between characters who aren't necessarily friends or enemies, I like the dynamic between them and the almost tragedy of how they can't resolve their problems because of how much it will risk danger to everyone else.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Post-canon or pre-canon, stuff to do with why the two characters can do this and how it started, whether they ever can solve things.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Violence (not extremely graphic), minor character death, open ending
Title: Starlight Brigade (TWRP ft. Dan Avidan)
Media: Music Video
Where to find it: here on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9Q3i5w6-Ug&pp=ygURc3RhcmxpZ2h0IGJyaWdhZGU%3D)
What is it, in summary?: A classic 80s-cartoon style hero's journey, condensed into a music video with banger lyrics and art. A fun space opera with high stakes despite the overall lighthearted tone!
What do you love about it?: It's colorful and fun and reads exactly like a toy-selling cartoon from the 80s, but is a single music video. The main character is adorable and hopeful, and it has an uplifting feeling to it.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Past "episodes" filling in parts we didn't see of the story, like how the other team members were recruited or how they located the villains of the story. Future "episodes" of the 80s series it seems to be a pilot of.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Non-graphic violence, mental health themes?
Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Happy Kiss
Date: 2025-03-21 09:09 am (UTC)Media: Anime (12 episodes)
Where to find it: It's on Crunchyroll. It's categorized as the 3rd season of "Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love!" (Or "Cute High Earth Defense Club Love!"), but the two Love seasons and its OVA are not needed to understand and enjoy Happy Kiss, as Happy Kiss has a whole new cast and is just set in the same town as its predecessor. The most relevance the 'Love' seasons have is as a VERY short cameo in one of the last episodes.
What is it, in summary?: It's a show about Magical Boys with a very comedic tone. The set-up is that there are two princes from a magical land competing with each other to see who will become the next king, and they give some high school boys magical powers to act as their subbordinates. But the main focus of the show is more on silly shenanigans and the characters' dynamics with each other. (It's also very much a fujobait show, so a lot of the character interactions are intended to be ship fodder.)
What do you love about it?: I am usually someone who struggles with putting what I like about things into words, but to put it simply: I just LOVE pretty much all the characters and their dynamics with each other! I really like their character designs too!
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: For a long time now my main ship has been the incest ship between the two magical princes, so I might request stuff for that ship. But recently I've also been REALLY into the ship between a 1st-year boy who literally has a crush on the 3rd-year who really likes to tease all his kouhais, so the chances of me requesting stuff for them are pretty high. I'll most likely request both fic AND art.
Content warnings: There's some fanservice and the main cast is all under 18, which might be a turn-off for some.
Tokyo Mew Mew Olé
Date: 2025-03-21 10:07 am (UTC)Media: Manga (32 chapters)
Where to find it: Good luck.
What is it, in summary?: The plot is basically that there's a group of aliens trying to destroy all of humanity, so a human scientist makes a machine that ends up giving 5 guys Magical Boy powers based on near-extinct animals. The protagonist is a girl who is actually that scientist's niece, and who is very knowledgeable about animals.
(You do not need prior knowledge of other entries in the Tokyo Mew Mew franchise, as this is a completely standalone entry. I myself know basically nothing about any other Tokyo Mew Mew media besides this and still enjoyed it a lot!)
What do you love about it?: God I love so many things about it. I like ALL of the characters! I like the reverse harem vibe it has, but also like how the endgame ship develops throughout the story. I really like the antagonist trio too! (Latte specifically just lives rent-free in my brain at this point. Just rotating him in my mind at random points of the week.)
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: I usually go ham on just shipping Anzu (the female lead) with everyone, but currently I am still debating if I'll actually request all of her ships or just focus on my faves (on the one hand there is so little fanwork for this canon that I *would* genuinely be happy with receiving any of those ships atm, but on the other hand it's more work to figure out my requests orz). So those faves that I'm more likely to request are Anzu/Latte, Shibuya/Anzu/Latte, Anzu/Mocha and probably Shibuya & Latte too (because I think it'd be fun to see more interactions where they're being friendly to each other post-canon). My requests will likely be for both fic AND art.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): There's some noncon attempts after a certain point. None of those attempts are successful, but at least once it comes quite close. (And the protagonist - the victim of those noncon attempts - is underage.)
Hooper (Movie)
Date: 2025-03-22 04:55 am (UTC)Media: Movie
Where to find it: It should be uploaded to YouTube for free. Otherwise, Tubi might have it for certain regions.
What is it, in summary?: Hooper is about a stuntman (Sonny Hooper) who is facing down aging, a failing relationship, and the biggest stunt of his career--a huge rocket car jump--all at once.
What do you love about it?: It's just a very genuine film! The director and the lead actor are both former stuntmen, so Sonny is a really authentic character. He's also just... so interesting to analyze. I like the relationships he has with other characters, and the way that they all interact with each other. It's kind of a hangout movie for the most part, but I think it hits some really good emotional beats. The action is also just amazing looking, and really holds up all these years later. And Burt Reynolds is super hot.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Anything whumpy and post-canon/canon adjacent for Sonny.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): There's a couple instances of drunk driving, and 70s-typical language.
Pare Ko (Song)
Date: 2025-03-23 03:00 am (UTC)Media: Song
Where to find it:
Official Lyric Video: https://youtu.be/DwiKy8cieW0?feature=shared
Lyric Video With English Translation: https://youtu.be/zfewGCwF5SE
What is it, in summary?: "Pare Ko" is about a guy complaining to his friend about his terrible luck in his love life.
What do you love about it?: It's an old but classic song that's very fun to sing along to (especially the swear words in the chorus). Some of the verses are also very fun to read from the lens of "one of or both of these guys are in love with each other".
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: So. What if the narrator's friend is in love with the narrator. Or what if the narrator is in love with his friend but repressing it because of comphet. Or both at the same time? Something about the intimacy of commiserating with your definitely solely platonic fellow guy friend about romance.
Content warnings: Outdated/unhealthy views of (m/f) romance
A Room with a View (1985)
Date: 2025-03-24 04:02 am (UTC)Media: movie
Where to find it: On Max; It's also on The Criterion Channel and can be rented for $2.99 at most retailers.
What is it, in summary?: It's 1907, and Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) has embarked upon a tour of Italy before coming into her majority the next year. With her is her older cousin Charlotte (Dame Maggie Smith), who is dithery and anxious about proving herself a good chaperone. Things go immediately sideways when Lucy takes a look out of her bedroom window and realizes that it opens onto an alley instead of the splendor of Florence, as the signora who owns the place promised.
Complaining about the situation in the pensione's dining room draws the attention of fiery retired journalist Mr. Emerson (Denholm Elliott) and his morose railway worker son, George (Julian Sands). In spite of the weight of social propriety, Mr. Emerson cajoles an offended Charlotte into swapping rooms with the father and son, providing Lucy with the view she desires. There is, it seems, a reason behind this - Mr. Emerson is aware of George's depression and begs Lucy to be his son's friend. Putting up a pretense of shock when Mr. Emerson reveals their family's atheism, Lucy demurs.
Fate sweeps the young couple together: first, George catches Lucy mid-faint in a piazza when they both witness a murder. Then, Lucy's poor Italian results in her cabdriver taking her to George during a group picnic. George is so moved by the sight of her in the springtime sunlight he kisses her. All of this finally restores George's wish to live and causes him to fall in love with Lucy. Lucy, in turn, begins to warm to George. But Charlotte sweeps Lucy away from George's reach before they can truly act on their feelings.
Back home on Summer Street in Surrey, Lucy and George are once again brought together. But they have two big problems: Lucy's still in denial about her feelings for him, and she has agreed to marry Cecil (Daniel Day-Lewis), a foppish society maven ruled by his mother who sees Lucy as someone to sharpen into the perfect hostess in spite of her nouveau riche country girl background. Which man will win her affection, and will Lucy ever learn her own heart?
What do you love about it?: The tension, the acting, the scenery porn, the way it's also about emerging from grief into joy and community, and how it's about loving those who love the real you.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: All the Lucy/George, but I have a soft spot for many other characters here.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): Full frontal and rear cis male nudity; implied sexual content; one very bloody onscreen murder; smoking
Team Fortress 2 (Comic and Videos)

The comics:

What is it, in summary?:
Team Fortress 2 is a first person shooter; however the story behind it follows the crew of zany mercenaries. The videos give an idea of the characters and what they do working while the comics go in depth into the past, present, and the future of their lives. The Main series comics follow the group after they were fired and getting back together for one last mission.
What do you love about it?: I really love the characters and humorous setting (with concepts that if you thought about can get really really angsty!)
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Mostly merc ships, with a few side character ships as well. I really like a variety, from angst, humor, fluf, etc! I also like AUs! I truly am open to most things :)
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence):
Gore/Violence (cartoon-humor and logic, but still violence)

You can also access some in-universe videos and documents here, but it may take some finicking. Just don't click the "Enter" button when you get the pop-up. Instead, click the X in the top right corner, then click on the tab labeled "Dram Drive" at the top of the page.
What is it, in summary?:
A surreal supermarket stocked with secrets, surprises, and very strange products. If it's marked with a price tag, you can buy it. Yes, the tattoo chicken. Yes, the Whale Song deodorant. Yes, the Gender Fluid.
As for the exhibit's narrative, it focuses on the in-universe company behind Omega Mart, Dramcorp. On one hand, it covers the story of Omega Mart's creation, the origin of its weird products, and the family drama and leadership struggles behind the company. On the other, it shows those who are fighting against the corporatization of the essence of creation, all the while having mind-bending journeys into parallel dimensions.
What do you love about it?:
The pure oddity of it! They do not shy away from the weird and wacky. But I really love the worldbuilding and the little details within the exhibit, like specific art pieces and jokes from pieces of the lore.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
Very specifically, I've nominated some obscure characters rather than the main characters that the in-exhibit plot centers around. The characters I've nominated are Cherry Blitz and Lemon Frenzy, who are two living types of products sold by Omega Mart, straight from the Source. (They appear frequently in marketing material together, and their appearances in the exhibit are not limited to the product on the website, but I'll compile those details in my request.)
I've also nominated You, the Omega Mart Employee from the Employee Training Video. Whimsical and wacky shenanigans are very welcome.
I'd also love any kind of Worldbuilding!! There's a lot of potential for it.

What is it, in summary?:
Story-driven mixed-genre indie game about a bartender, his boyfriend, and an android in a cyberpunk city, and their quest to stop a megacorporation from potentially permanently compromising free will. Expect many dialogue trees on the nature of happiness, free will, ethics, and manipulation.
What do you love about it?:
It's just one very emotionally and intellectually satisfying gutpunchy whole. Everything from the art style to the questions it asks and the way it asks them, the way it plays with the interactive medium and... this is one of those stories that is both in the Videogames As High Art hall of fame for me and would have been less impactful if it had been told in any other form.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
Art or fic.
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence):
Several incidents of on-screen violence/death

What is it, in summary
In an alternate history 1980s USA where one (1) genuinely super-powered superhero emerged and led to escalations in the Cold War, vigilantism is now illegal. Fortunately, the very angry and utterly sane vigilante Rorschach never quit, and when one of his old colleagues turns up dead, he starts digging.
What do you love about it?
It's a very tightly-written, compelling gritty superhero story (in some ways, it is the original "gritty" superhero story) that's a genuinely good mystery and a thoughtful examination of both the personal and social struggles of capes, compromise, morality and the greater good. The characters are delightfully flawed and messed up in very human ways, and with one extremely noteworthy exception, everyone on the cast is a Badass Normal with no supernatural abilities to speak of. But there's one reason it still stands head and shoulders above other "gritty" superhero media even today: It is incredibly hopeful in terms of what it says about humanity, and that feels so rare in the "darker" superhero stories. It also has one of my favourite depictions of a nihilistic character finding something to believe in. Oh, and the visuals are a treat.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?:
The Nite Owl &/ Rorschach ship is fandom catnip for good reason - what can be better than estranged former partners-in-crime(fighting) whose trust has turned to bitterness, but who are trying to rebuild that bond? But I'm also very fond of the extremely compelling and complicated Nite Owl/Rorschach/Silk Spectre OT3 the fandom has carved out of this.
Content warnings
Violence ahoy. Murder, sexual assault, homophobia, child abuse (including death of children), mass deaths, heavy themes.
And one last thing...
There is a Zack Snyder movie adaptation. IMHO it's very faithful but misses the mark in some crucial ways and ultimately lacks a certain je ne sais quoi, but the five-minute intro sequence does a fantastic job of conveying the mood of the comic. You can watch it here!.

What is it, in summary?: A short RPG set in 15th century Slovakia where you play Pavol, an alcoholic knight who is charged by Jozef, the local lord, to investigate a mysterious explosion at the nearby ruins. With you is Matej, a monk sent by the archbishop of Debrecen to audit the local village priest. What begins as a fight with a few Hussite bandits and a fire in an old castle quickly grows much, much stranger.
Here is a review that goes into a bit more detail with a few more spoilers!
What do you love about it?: I love the way the characterization and worldbuilding deepen as the game goes on and more is revealed through plot developments and Pavol and Matej's conversations. The game does a really good job at balancing humor, seriousness, and strangeness in its storytelling. As a game, the combat is simple but enjoyable and finding all the sidequests, easter eggs, and different endings is really satisfying. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic.
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Jozef failing at increasingly anachronistic games. Pavol and Matej growing closer. Backstory for any/every character. Post-canon events. Art of any/all of the characters! Art of Matej's art!!
Content warnings (for example: rape, incest, racism, gore/violence): body horror, low-poly violence, alcohol abuse, some period-typical ableism and religious conflict
Five Nights at Freddy's (Movie 2023)
Date: 2025-03-27 08:29 pm (UTC)Media: Movie (1 hour 50 mins)
Where to find it: Can be bought or rented on various streaming services (Peacock, Apple TV, etc.)
What is it, in summary?: Mike is struggling to provide for his younger sister Abby and takes a job as a night guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, an abandoned restaurant with a history of children going missing.
What do you love about it?: I love sibling characters which this movie has a lot of! I also like how Abby becomes friends with the animatronics- some people don't like the part with them building a fort because it doesn't feel like a horror movie, but Abby deserves friendship and fluff. And it is scary at other times! (I'm also a bit of a film nerd and appreciate that the animatronics are practical and not CGI) (I am also a fan of the FNAF franchise in general but the movie is its own universe and can be watched without knowledge of the games/franchise.)
What sort of things are you likely to request for it?: Abby and her brothers (Garrett and Mike) and sibling bonding! Both canon compliant (Abby & Garrett never met, angst) and whatif/canon divergent (they are best friends in the way that siblings are)
Content warnings: Plenty of death, murder, child murder, etc. (there's both implied/offscreen death/murder and onscreen. I promise Abby doesn't die.) Some blood, but not excessive blood/gore (it’s rated PG-13). Also major flashing warning, jumpscares, implied child abuse, kidnapping, and drug use (sleeping pills).
